A concert that will ask women "to raise their voices: it is time to do it because we have reached a maximum limit". Fiorella Mannoia, concert teacher of the 26th edition of "La Notte della Taranta", has a harsh tone when she talks about women, tarantulas told in Salento songs, "those rebels or submissive" to whom traditional popular music, which will be celebrated tomorrow in Melpignano in the province of Lecce, will give space. The event, focused on the theme of identity as recalled in the press conference this morning, comes at a time "when unfortunately the news events" will make some songs like "Fimmine fimmine", "much more touching", explained Mannoia who spoke of the torments experienced after the horrible gang rape that took place in Palermo last July.
"I wondered if, after reading those chats, it was appropriate to publish them. I decided to do it so that we can fully understand what are the motivations, if there are and there are not, that push young people to behave in this way, to rage so much on the body of a woman. So I decided that maybe those chats should be brought to schools", she continued announcing that tomorrow, from the tarantolato stage "I will not say what I am saying now" because "it is an evening of celebration, but I want to say a few words and underline what I explained today", continued Mannoia speaking with journalists to whom she told that she would have liked to have "Sting as an international guest" but that she is "very satisfied" with those who will share the stage with her and the popular orchestra "La Notte della Taranta", or Tananai, Brunori Sas and Arisa.
"We worked a lot on the arrangements" because "the difficulty - explained Mannoia - lies in touching these popular songs, without debasing them, leaving the popular imprint and managing to put modern elements inside". The concert will open with his tribute to the artistic director of the festival, Gigi Chiriatti, who died recently: he will interpret "Un giorno di venerdì" which he will lead in the sound journey curated by Carlo Di Francesco and the conductor Clemente Ferrari.
"Here you sing songs with melancholy" which is "also a bit our nature in the South which is the history of peoples who have experienced exploitation, marginalization, a subordinate cultural condition, so it is very nice to be able to sing it", continued Brunori who will interpret Lule Lule in arbereshe and Aremu in grico. The singer-songwriter reiterated the importance of contamination between identities: "Hybridization in my opinion is a natural process that is also inevitable, so I feel sorry for those who think they want to maintain borders at all costs, for those who want to erect walls and put borders because they are sieve borders. Ferma Zitella and Lu Ruciu de lu mare, two symbolic pieces of the popular orchestra's repertoire, will be performed by Arisa, the superguest of the concertone. "I believe that the Notte della Taranta is one of the most important testimonies of the maintenance of identity and pride for one's roots".
For the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano "La Notte della Taranta is one of the most important popular culture events in Europe in which different styles blend and find a perfect synthesis". The concert (which will be broadcast by Rai 1 on September 2) "will always have my support" as it is "community and identity, which makes us stay together and being together is something necessary", concluded the minister.
