- TRIESTE - The Caffè degli specchi, a historic bar in Trieste overlooking the central Piazza Unità d'Italia, closes due to bad weather. Yesterday, as explained by the owner, Riccardo Faggiotto, the heavy rains and wind caused some damage to the restaurant, so as to compromise its reopening.
"This morning there were problems with the electrical system while yesterday flooding was recorded inside the room, in the basement", says Faggiotto.
"We are working on the electrical system but we do not yet have a precise date for the possible reopening. We are working 24 hours a day".
Yesterday the restaurant had closed early. And today the decision.
"It is the first time, except for the Covid parenthesis, that the restaurant remains closed in 13 years", observes Faggiotto.
The Caffè degli specchi is a destination for Triestines and tourists. Its name, as also recalled by social profiles, is linked to the tradition, since the opening in the nineteenth century, to engrave the most important historical events on mirrors or glass plates.
