The flames continue to devour the Greek forest. The country is facing the "largest fire ever recorded in the EU", a spokesman for the European Commission said on Tuesday. Faced with fires, the Twenty-Seven States still mobilise nearly half of Europe's common air assets.
In detail, eleven planes and a helicopter from the European fleet were sent to help Athens fight the flames in the Dadia National Park, in the northeast of the country, with 407 firefighters, said spokesman Balazs Ujvari. "The fires are getting more and more serious," he insisted.
Greek firefighters are battling for the eleventh consecutive day against a fire ravaging the forest in this park of the European Natura 2000 network, known to be home to many raptors. The fire, which stretches over a front of nearly 10 kilometers, is "still out of control," said one of their spokesmen.

Greece has been ravaged by numerous fires this summer, which the government blames on climate change. The EU has a fleet of 24 aircraft and four helicopters provided by Member States to fight fires in the EU and neighbouring countries.
