Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said the BRICS group, to which six more countries were invited to join in 2024, was "stronger than the G7".
In his weekly live on social media, Lula said that the entry of Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran will make the group "more powerful, stronger and more important".
"I think the world will never be the same. The BRICS today are stronger than the G7", said the progressive leader, recalling that the bloc represents about 32% of world GDP, compared to 29% of the G7.
The President then insisted on his proposal to establish a reference currency to replace the dollar in commercial transactions and cited the example of the euro.
"Europeans created the euro. It's not against the dollar, it's pro-Brazil, and Brazilian trade," he said.
