Ninja Speedy, Sarig Electric

You'll have to believe us when we say it's not an easy job, not an easy job at all.

To try all the new products that come out to the Israeli market (and sometimes also outside it), to taste before everyone else, deliveries and more deliveries, paper bags that accumulate in the office (and at home), a constant feeling of satiety.

Seriously, it's harder than it seems, and no one pays you for the gym, or compensates you for the rapidly developing sense of FOMO in the psyche.

To all articles in the "New on the Shelf" sectionHowever, the "New on the Shelf"

section, with its tasters, curiosities and loyal consumers, was once again on its way, determined and mission-oriented. And this time - single dishes, whole meals, and many surprises along the way. Yes, we are very eclectic.

Enjoy!

Expecting but sober. Ninja Speedy (Photo: Sarig Electric)

Sorry in advance, but the starting point of the current experience was very complex.

On the one hand, something of a ninja, a company that in recent years has managed to put receipts on each of its statements. Blenders and food processors of course, but also cooks and even a set of knives that impressed us just a few months ago.

On the other hand, something that looks like an Air Prairie, advanced of course, and promises much more than just frying in hot air (and for that matter, promises much more than hot air, period), but nevertheless Air Prairie, a product that failed to make a successful rise to Ben Gurion Airport to the end, and must prove its necessity on everyone's home countertop.

And so, expectant but sober, we opened Ninja Speedy's cardboard box. That's all that happened next.

Meals in 15 minutes

It's a new device from Sarig Electric (model ON403) that promises, simply, meals in 15 minutes, "and juicy food on the inside and extra crispy on the outside."

It offers two main modes - hot air frying and cooking - and ten cooking programs, all under a Hebrew-speaking shell (including a ticked display screen), relatively elegant looking, very easy to operate even if you usually have trouble with such features.

Order at the top, and on the plate. Ninja Speedy (Photo: Sarig Electric)

The result is not exactly equal to a deep oil bath in a pan, but not far from it at all, and certainly healthier

The first format is "speedy programs," and it operates on the basis of fast and powerful cooking technology that infuses steam (and moisture) into food, and uses hot air to burn and create desired external crispiness.

This mode includes four programs – a quick 15-minute meal with, for example, legumes, grains, vegetables and protein, hot air frying combined with steam, baking with steam, and steaming without roasting.

Long days of "playing" on all these functions made order in the head, and on the plate. First, of course, came the frying, in the form of strips of potatoes, for example, sweet potatoes, and then also cabbage, beans and the like. The result is not exactly equal to a deep oil bath in a pan, but not far from it at all, and certainly healthier. So, for example, you'll need to add a tablespoon or two of oil to about half a kilo of chips, and at the end of the process (about 20 minutes of activation, stirring lightly every once in a while), well, homemade fries from scratch.

Baking was trickier, and included a simpler start. You also need to adjust the home mold (so that it can fit into the ninja) and in general you ask yourself a lot of questions because you are working to create another "oven", but the result is good - chocolate cake in this case, with a home-made feeling and good juiciness, and if the intention is that the device can also replace large ovens, or provide a solution in kitchens where there are none, the message is understood.

Steaming was an obvious step, although it was a technique used with minimal use in our own kitchen, while the whole meals were already a display of instrumental purpose. A piece of chicken, for example, which went inside along with fresh vegetables, rice and liquids on their way to being a sauce, put together a deep bowl for diners, and after one or two attempts, the attempts only intensified.

Also helped by the attached recipe-recommendation booklet, which paves you in the right direction and neutralizes objections, and a digital "recommendation calculator" in Hebrew.

The second mode is, of course, hot air frying and cooking, which uses about 75% less oil than usual, and combines six smart programs - frying, grilling, baking-roasting, slow cooking, cooking-burning, and drying food.

Schnitzels came in and came (not quite as if they had come off the pan, but certainly negligible considering the oil gaps), frozen burekas (which came out close to perfection), noodles and vegetables (totally passed the test) and even fruit to dry. The options, it seems, are very varied and require more work and more meals, but the result is clear.

Operation is easy, quite intuitive, very safe (the device stops working, for example, when the lid is raised to check the status of food), friendly even to those who are not sure of themselves, and encourages repairs. After all, that's home cooking, isn't it?

No monsters allowed

The new device includes a 5.7-liter pot with a ceramic non-stick coating and an adjustable frying plate. Both parts are easily cleaned and suitable for dishwasher use. It occupies a certain place on the marble (31.5 cm high, 35 cm wide, 36 cm deep) but not like other monsters that have taken over this space in recent years.

The launch price of Sarig is NIS 1,190 (including one year full warranty and two years limited additional warranty subject to the regulations on the Sarig Electric website and the conditions in the warranty certificate), and the bottom line is that you should think seriously about it as a shortcut, as a home sous chef and especially as an excellent auxiliary product.
