Visitors come to his sunflower fields only to be photographed nude against the background of the flowers in favor of artistic photos that they can share on social media. The farm owner is fighting the spreading phenomenon, literally, of people coming to his sunflower fields to pose nude against the background of yellow flowers in favor of artistic photos for Instagram

The owner of Stoke Fruit Farm is trying to deal with the disturbing phenomenon of visitors who come to his sunflower fields only to be photographed nude against the background of the flowers in favor of artistic photos that they can share on social media. He said there has been an increase in tourists taking advantage of his fields for daring photos, "while families with children hang out there."

Sam Wilson, the owner of the farm located on Hayling Island near Portsmouth, England, addressed visitors on the farm's Facebook page to vent his frustration at the women and men who regularly spread through his sunflower fields. On the Internet you will find many pictures of topless women taking pictures against the background of sunflowers (not only in his field, of course) with only the flowers hiding their breasts. His fields, says the owner of the farm, are also visited by children – especially during summer vacations, when the place is an attraction for family entertainment – and it is inappropriate for him to be photographed like this around children.

Wilson told The New York Times: "We've had a few cases of nudity and we want to remind people that we're a family attraction. We're for everyone, from babies to 100 years old. We're a family attraction and that's our ethos."

He added: "We want people to come here and enjoy picking flowers, have fun as a family, take pictures and enjoy things. I understand that there are some people who want to take bold photos for their Instagram profiles, etc., and all I ask is that they be considerate of the people around them. When you take your photos in the sunflower fields, think about how this might affect them. That's all we're asking."

His request follows a similar post shared about a year ago from another sunflower field owner who claimed that a woman he didn't know had left her bra in his fields — and suggested a visitor come pick up her bra before he had to "throw it away" when the harvest came.

This is not the first time, of course, sunflowers have been used as inspiration and background for nude photos. In 2003, Helen Mirren starred in the British film Calendar Girls, based on the true story of a group of middle-aged women who pose nude for a calendar to raise money for blood cancer research. The sunflowers stand out very much in the pictures there.

"I think it's very funny," said Patricia Stewart, 74, one of the original calendar girls, whose idea was to create the calendar. They have raised about $7 million for Blood Cancer U.K. over the past two decades, according to the organization's website.
