A sign against food waste should be the trees marked with a yellow ribbon. But what do you have to consider when harvesting?
Most people have seen it while walking in the woods or along roads: a yellow ribbon on fruit trees. But the pretty eye-catcher does not indicate a scavenger hunt or festive decorations, but rather identifies trees that may be harvested by passers-by.

Whether apples, pears or plums: fruit tastes even better when it has been harvested by yourself. If you don't have your own tree in your garden, you can try your luck at harvesting with approved woody plants. According to SWR.de, you should keep the following in mind when harvesting trees with ribbons or bows:
- Only trees and shrubs that bear a yellow ribbon should be harvested, because only this fruit has been released by the owners.
- Harvest only what is directly tangible or collect fallen fruit.
- Do not pick more fruit than you can consume and check that the fruit is still good. Don't be put off by a brown spot. You can simply cut them out.
- Respect nature and the property of others. Do not damage anything.
According to SWR.de, the colors of the ribbons may vary depending on the region. For example, they are yellow in large parts of Germany, while in the district of Reutlingen they have to look for white ribbons.

Caution should be exercised with trees without a ribbon, as T-Online points out. After all, anyone who harvests fruit that has not been released is liable to prosecution.
