Sure, basically most people know what deductions are due every month (if not, you can find out here). Nevertheless, it is always good to know what amounts are being deducted - if only to quickly notice errors in payroll. After all, payroll errors can cost you money.
Payroll: Abbreviations quickly explained
To shed some light on your payslip, we have compiled the most important abbreviations on your pay slip:

BGRS | Contribution group key | |
E | One-time cover | irregular payments such as Christmas or holiday bonuses |
GB | Total gross | |
H | Amount to be added | Applied when the employee is in more than one employment relationship. Registration via the wage tax reduction procedure at the tax office is required. |
J | Component of the total gross | Amounts counted towards the total gross |
Ki.Frbtr. | Child allowance | The child allowance is deducted from taxable income and reduces the income tax burden. |
KiSt | Church tax | |
KK | Health insurance | |
KK % | Relevant contribution rate for health insurance incl. additional contribution | |
KV | Health insurance | |
L | Ongoing reference | All regular payments from the employer, including salary. Also fluctuating remuneration such as commissions. |

N | Recalculation | Occurs when errors have occurred in the payroll for the previous month. |
