Highlights: Isabelle Adjani is accused of failing to declare a €2 million "donation" from a Senegalese businessman. The actress defends herself in the columns of L'Obs and Paris Match. "He knew that I would have the capacity to repay it when the time came with the fruits of my labour," she says of the loan. On 19 October, the court will examine this case and two other disputes, including a suspicion of money laundering and a "fictitious domiciliation" in Portugal.

In the midst of promoting the release of Thieves on Netflix, Isabelle Adjani appeared in court on October 19.

€2 million is the amount Isabelle Adjani is said to have received in 2013 from Mamadou Diagna Ndiaye, a Senegalese businessman and the French actress' right-hand man. The National Prosecutor's Office suspects Isabelle Adjani of having failed to declare this "donation", which the actress refuses to qualify as such. "In 2013, when I was in a financial situation made impossible (...) a friend, Mr. Diagna Ndiaye, who is also the godfather of my son born in the United States, lent me a sum of 2 million euros in order to honor all my arrears and financial obligations," the actress defended herself in the columns of L'Obs on Thursday. "He knew that I would have the capacity to repay it when the time came with the fruits of my labour," says Adjani, adding: "This ten-year loan was finally registered with the tax authorities."

On 19 October, the court will examine this case and two other disputes, including a suspicion of money laundering dating back to 2014 and a "fictitious domiciliation" in Carcavelos, Portugal. On this subject, the actress with five Césars is categorical. "Yes, I live in a small building that doesn't look like much (...) Sorry, I don't own a mansion with a spa, but I rent an apartment with a large parking lot that I converted into a loft and where my whole life is stored," she explained in another interview with Paris Match.

Isabelle Adjani, who stars in Thieves by Mélanie Laurent, an action film that will be released in early November on Netflix, is preparing a new album of duets with, among others, Étienne Daho and Benjamin Biolay.
