A ray of light: The liver of paratrooper Lieutenant Roy Nahari, who fell in the war, was transplanted in Beilinson by Olga Paykin, who suffered from a serious illness. Olga: "While Israel is at war, I am fighting for my life and the family that donated saved me."

Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva transplanted the lungs and liver of Lieutenant Roy Nahari, a 23-year-old paratrooper killed in the rescue and defense of the village of Gaza. Roy's family respected his wish to donate organs, and thanks to him, five Israelis gained a new life.

Roy's lungs were implanted in Beilinson in a 72-year-old man and his condition is now stable. The liver was transplanted into 44-year-old Olga Paykin. Olga, married with five children from Yeruham, worked in a glass factory. She has been suffering from severe liver disease (jaundice) for 30 years and this is her third liver transplant. Recently, her condition deteriorated and she needed an urgent transplant to save her life.

Olga: "The disease makes my day to day very difficult. I expected a donation simply to save my life. While there is a war in Israel, I too am fighting for my life. When I was informed that there was a donation, I was very excited, and when I realized that the donation was from an officer killed in the war in the south, the excitement increased. My family saved my life and they did it out of their immense pain, I have no words to thank them."

Dr. Eviatar Nesher, Director of Beilinson's Transplant Department: "This war is very painful, a deep and bleeding wound in the heart of the entire nation of Israel. With the noble contribution of the Nahari family, whose son fell while rescuing and defending the village of Gaza, alongside the immense pain, there is also a moment of great hope for another family. Olga, who suffered from a serious illness, received the liver and we hope that it will change the course of her life and she will embark on a new and much healthier path."
