After that of Filippo Ganna, Italy now holds the world hour record also in the women's field, thanks to the performance of Vittoria Bussi, achieved in the velodrome of Aguascalientes (Mexico). The Roman cyclist, a specialist in individual time trials, covered the hour in 50.267 km/h, breaking the previous record set by Dutchwoman Ellen Van Dijk in May 2022, when her average speed was 49.254 km/h. At 36, the Italian not only took back a record she had obtained for the first time in 2018, but became the first woman in history to achieve the hour record exceeding 50 km per hour.
