Mold often brings with it a variety of health risks. The bargain chain TK Maxx has therefore now had to recall a dessert.

Munich – Many consumers know TK Maxx's stores primarily as clothing stores. However, some foodstuffs, such as sweets, are also sold in the stores. One of them is now part of a recall – mold has been found in the product.

Candy recall at TK Maxx – mold detected in product

If there is a risk that food could be hazardous to health, a recall is often necessary. The recall may be due to errors in production that allow bacteria to enter the food. In particular, bacterial contamination with listeria occurs more frequently and can be extremely dangerous for some groups. Listeria poses a danger to the unborn child, especially in pregnant women – the consumption of the food is then strongly discouraged.

In order to protect consumers from health hazards, the candy "Biscotti Darlings", which were sold at TK Maxx, had to be recalled. "We are recalling the product because mold has been found in it, which could lead to a potential safety issue," the company writes. "The safety of our customers is very important to us and therefore we are taking this precautionary measure."

The affected sweets can be returned in all TK Maxx stores, and the full purchase price will be refunded. "If you have purchased the product, please stop using it and return it to a TK Maxx store," the company strongly recommends.

What form of mold is in the food, TK Maxx did not disclose. Depending on the type of mold, consuming the food can have mild to severe consequences. Typical symptoms after eating moldy products are nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, as the consumer advice center also warns. Children, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems should even consult a doctor if they have severe symptoms.
