Crispy fried potatoes are the perfect side dish – for juicy steak crostinis, spicy currywust sandwiches or fried mushrooms with yoghurt dip. Fried potatoes also go wonderfully with zucchini stuffed with minced meat. But in order for them to be really nice and crispy, the order of preparation is crucial.

If you want to refine the fried potatoes with spices, onions and bacon, you will need other ingredients:

  • 1 kg potatoes (waxy)
  • 2 onions
  • 50 g bacon cubes
  • 2 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of pepper

Correct order: step by step to crispy fried potatoes

  • Step: Wash the potatoes.
  • Step: Bring water to a boil in a saucepan, then reduce the heat and place the potatoes in it. You should let the potatoes cook for about 20 minutes.
  • Step: Drain the potato water using a sieve.
  • Step: Rinse the potatoes with cold water.
  • Step: Peel the potatoes.
  • Step: Allow the potatoes to cool and peel and dice the onions in the meantime.
  • Step: Cut the potatoes into slices of equal thickness and fry the bacon cubes in a pan.
  • Step: Add the sunflower oil to the pan and fry the sliced potatoes evenly on both sides, but do not turn them until one side is crispy.
  • Step: Once the fried potatoes are crispy on both sides, add the onions for about five minutes.
  • Step: Serve the fried potatoes with the fried bacon cubes and season with salt and pepper as needed.
