Highlights: In the battle for hearts and minds, this is exactly what Israel needs now. Lucy Aharish may have been hit by a tsunami of slime and nastiness on social media, but the work she does every night on screen is admirable. She runs a television campaign on behalf of the families of the missing and captives. In her broadcasts, she hosts families and survivors of the inferno, listens to their stories and lavishes caring in droves. She is a model of sanity, coexistence and peace. There is no better explanation than her.

Even these days, Lucy Aharish is getting a tsunami of slime and nastiness on a daily basis on social media. Remote tweeters accuse the TV presenter of treason and support for the enemy, make it clear that they will settle accounts with her after the war, curse and, of course, mention her Arab origins.

But the truth is that Lucy Aharish is the most accurate and effective weapon that the people of Israel have in the arsenal of this war. What she does every night on Channel 13 deserves full appreciation and paragon. The broadcasts she leads until the wee hours maintain calm and proportion, include respectful and empathetic interviews with trauma victims, and give women and Arabs a place in the ongoing discourse.

Lucy looks reality straight in the white of her eye, shouting out her messages and opinions. Last week, she began a broadcast with a monologue in English calling on the world to wake up and help. The clip went viral and Aharish was called on Friday night for an interview on CNN. For ten minutes, she told two interviewers from America about the attack she survived at the age of 5, described the horrors of the disaster in tears, asked the world to arrange for the release of the hostages, stressed that she was a Muslim and made it clear that Hamas does not represent Islam. This clip also went viral all over the world.

Aharish dedicates her in-house advocacy to echoing the messages of the families of the missing and captives, and literally conducts a television campaign for them every moment she is present on screen. In her broadcasts, she hosts families and survivors of the inferno, listens to their stories and lavishes caring in droves.

"Do you know you're strong? Do you know you're a hero? Do you understand that?" she insisted at the end of an interview with a missing woman's sister. And that's how it is with everyone. Lucy listens, supports, cares, encourages and conveys hope and strength. It is what we should aspire to at the end of the war, because in a civilized, humane and Jewish state, Aharish is a model of sanity, coexistence and peace. It is exactly what the people of Israel need right now in large doses in order to continue advocacy and strengthen national resilience. There is no better explanation than her.
