2023-10-14T10:05:02.842Z

Highlights: Prince William and Kate Middleton will attend the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals in Marseille, France. The couple will support their favorite teams, England and Wales. Kate is the patron of the Rugby Football Union, while Prince William is the head of the Welsh Rugby Union. Never before had two British teams reached the final round of this tournament together. The match will take place at the Stade Vélodrome on Saturday, October 14, while the other is on Sunday, October 15.

On the sidelines of the quarter-finals of the world competition, the couple will once again support England and Wales this weekend in Marseille.

This Saturday, October 14, Prince William will take his place in the stands of the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille to support Wales in the Rugby World Cup quarter-final against Australia. But he will not be accompanied by his wife Kate Middleton, who prefers to support the England team the next day. This official visit was revealed on Friday, October 13 by royal expert and Daily Mail journalist Rebbeca English on social networks.

Rivals for a day

"The Prince and Princess of Wales will both attend the quarter-finals of the #RugbyWorldCup this weekend. The prince, head of the Welsh Rugby Union, will attend the Wales-Argentina match on Saturday. While for the princess, patron of the Rugby Football Union, it will be England against Fiji on Sunday," the reporter said yesterday on her Twitter account.

But why is the couple separating for this sporting trip? The reason is simple: everyone has their favorite team. Since February 2022, Kate Middleton has been the patron of the Rugby Football Union, a position formerly held by her brother-in-law, Prince Harry, who has now been freed from all official commitments since his departure from the royal family. Prince William, meanwhile, has taken over the role of patron of the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016, following the directives of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Sporty Lucky Charm

Already last month, the couple had already travelled separately to France to attend the debut of their favorite teams in the competition. Their presence had proved to be a good luck charm for the sportsmen as England beat Argentina 27-10 while Wales achieved a 32-26 victory over Fiji.

Now in the quarter-finals, both opposing teams are well on their way to a historic final. Never before had two British teams reached the final round of this tournament together. One can imagine how this prospect must have fuelled high expectations and provoked a great deal of debate on the plane that takes the royal couple to Marseille this weekend. Verdict on Sunday night on the way back to Britain?
