American actress Piper Laurie, who starred opposite Paul Newman in the film The Hustler and played a leading role in "Carrie: Satan's Gaze," has died at the age of 91, her representative Marion Rosenberg confirmed to Variety.
"A wonderful human being and one of the great talents of our time," said her collaborator of the actress who has earned three Oscar nominations over the course of her career. Laurie earned her first Hollywood Oscar nomination for her work opposite Paul Newman in the 1961 drama classic The Hustler. After retiring for more than a decade, she returned to film and television in the mid-1976s: she was renamed for her performance in "Carrie" (1986) and "Children of a Lesser God" (<>). His performance in David Lynch's iconic television series, "Twin Peaks," earned him two of his nine Emmy nominations, although he only won one statuette for his role in the television movie "Promise."
