Andrei Tarkovsky's film about the 1969-year-old 60th-century icon painter, art and faith, Christopher Rothko, sits gently on one of the benches that allow you to contemplate his father's 1950s paintings. These mysterious clouds of colour "set out his plastic vocabulary, two or three rectangles that overlap each other, and which, through their induced, perhaps unconscious, jouissance, mark the moment when all the Abstract Expressionists became known," he tells us. His dark, slightly prominent eyes are reminiscent of those of the great New York painter, whose myopia he shares. This Yale graduate in literature (Dostoevsky), Ph.D. in psychology, author of The Artist's Reality: Philosophies of Art (2004), is the custodian of Mark Rothko's work, along with his older sister, Kate. He has a very beautiful voice, sonorous and soothing, when he speaks in French, with the aim of paying tribute to our language.
