Jannik Sinner thanks Hubert Hurkacz - there is a solid friendship between the two - because thanks to the Pole's victory in the final of the Masters 1000 in Shanghai he was able to maintain the fourth place in the world ranking, avoiding the possible overtaking by Andrey Rublev. The Russian narrowly missed the shot, being defeated in the tie-break of the third set, which would have allowed him to reach his career-best ranking and guaranteed qualification for the ATP Finals in Turin.
Rublev is one step away from becoming the fifth safe participant in the tournament, after Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Sinner. For the other three places there is a certain crowding, given that Hurkacz - after obtaining the seventh title of his career and the second Masters 1000 - is now close in terms of points to the Norwegian Holger Rune, eighth and virtually last of the qualifiers.
