Buying second-hand designer items is a big trend within the second-hand trend and so verifying authenticity is an important step to give consumers confidence. Vinted, one of Europe's leading marketplaces dedicated to second-hand fashion, has introduced an item verification service, costing €10, which allows you to confirm the authenticity of items from selected brands; The verification is carried out by a team of qualified brand experts.
The service is available in France, Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands for designer items from selected brands and that fall into the fashion categories of bags, shoes, accessories, jewelry and watches for adults valued at more than €100. Members will see a banner with an item verification badge once they choose a verify-eligible ad. The service will gradually introduce new brands, markets, and categories.
"We understand that authenticity and reliability are paramount in the world of online second-hand shopping and believe that they should be accessible to everyone. That's why we've worked hard to create a trusted verification service for designer goods, at an affordable price. Since Vinted was founded 15 years ago, our commitment has always been to make second-hand the first choice for everyone, and we see this new service as a significant step forward in our ambition to provide our community with the utmost trust in our platform," says Adam Jay, CEO of Vinted marketplace.
Following last year's acquisition of Germany-based luxury resale platform Rebelle, the two teams have joined forces to bring Rebelle's expertise in item verification to Vinted members as well. The team of experts carefully examines eligible items purchased on Vinted at the verification center in Hamburg. The service is free for sellers, who can more safely sell higher-priced items, while buyers can rest easy knowing that the garments they want are vetted by qualified experts. The cost includes both the service itself and shipping to the verification center.
The service is already available for hundreds of designer and streetwear brands such as Bottega Veneta, Celine and Jacquemus or Adidas and New Balance. More brands will be gradually added. The verification service is carried out independently by Vinted and is not associated or affiliated with any brand. Vinted asked its members who have already tried the service to share their experiences: "When I bought a Prada bag with authenticity verification, I was calm because I knew that if it wasn't original, I would be 'protected' by this service. Luckily it's original. I had a great time," said an Italian user. "I get the benefit that I can keep my money safe until the item passes verification," added another.
