On a leash, dogs often show how much energy they have. There is often chasing and pulling from left to right. A dachshund shows that it can be done quite differently.
Dogs keep you fit – mentally and physically. For example, the daily walks train the heart and circulation and conversations on the street promote the grey cells. Seniors with dogs therefore often live healthier lives than older people who do not take care of a four-legged friend. The loneliness factor also plays a role: single seniors with dogs feel less alone, get into conversation with others more quickly on the street and thus interact more often with their fellow human beings.
Physical infirmities are often a reason for deciding against a dog. You don't have to be an athlete to keep a four-legged friend. It depends on the breed. There are dogs that need a little less exercise. For example, some Newfoundlands and St. Bernards are considered to be rather lazy. A dog's age is also crucial when it comes to walking.
Dog walks extremely slowly – for the sake of his master
Dogs are very social and can adapt enormously well to their masters or mistresses – if they want to. An Instagram video shows just how strong the bond can be.
An elderly man can be seen hunched over on a crutch. He keeps a dark brown dachshund on a leash. The man is visibly struggling to put one step in front of the other. Very slowly, he walks along the sidewalk – and his dog follows him patiently. Again and again, the furry nose takes longer breaks so that his master can move forward without haste.
Old age or just consideration: Instagram users are thrilled
Unfortunately, it is not known when and where the recordings were made. The background is also not known. But it seems as if dog and master have been sharing their lives for a long time. As considerate as the dog behaves, he must respect his master very much. However, other explanatory models are also possible. Thus, the dog, like its master, could already have reached an old age.
