Save the Children said more than 1,000 children have died as a result of Israeli shelling of the Gaza Strip over the past 11 days, or about one every 15 minutes. The number of child deaths accounts for about a third of the total number of victims. "Time is running out for the children of Gaza," the organization's director Jason Lee said in a statement. "The UN Security Council meeting is scheduled for today: a ceasefire is needed to save their lives. Without an end to the fighting, the lives of thousands of children are hanging by a thread."
