The international art fair Highlights is once again showing top-class works in the Munich Residence. Here you can discover and buy stars such as Picasso and Gerhard Richter, as well as young talents.

It's autumn. And nature paints again in its most beautiful colors. Let's take a closer look, let's consciously see what golden-green-rust-red beauties are sailing through the air towards the ground these days. This is what the artist Manfred Holtfrerich exhorts us to do with his series of paintings "Leaves". If you visit the international art fair Highlights, which will once again be a guest at the Munich Residenz from October 18 to 22, 2023, you should definitely stop by the booth of the Drawing Room Hamburg gallery. There are three sheets by Holtfrerich, gossamer watercolours on handmade paper. Its glow tells of a summer full of life – but the holey structure already tells of the transience that is inherent in everything. One costs 4800 euros.

But that's the beauty of trade fairs: If you don't have the necessary money in your petty cash, you can just come to look. Art Treasures from Antiquity to the Present brings together the Highlights, one of the most top-class art fairs in Germany, 57 exhibitors are represented this time. They show art from all over the world. And young Munich talents can also be discovered here. Annemarie Faupel, for example, who studied in Karin Kneffel's class at the Academy of Fine Arts. Her nude paintings depict women's bodies with curves, dents, bellies. Unadorned and genuine. In doing so, it pleasantly sets itself apart from the embellished imagery of social media channels. Faupel is represented by the Munich gallery Langen Jennings.

Gerhard Richter, Picasso and Magritte also hang on the exhibition stands; however, it takes more than the proverbial change. In general, it's always the same with beautiful things: the works that magically attract you are usually the ones that cost a lot. Why should it be any different in art than in the shoe store? For example, you stand in front of Minjung Kim's "Blue Mountain" and marvel at this fine ink work on paper, which is so full of power. And then look at the price tag: 106,000 euros. The happiness of simply being able to enjoy it fascinated: priceless.
