No, it's not about underwear in "Slip." The title of this American series, which means "to slide" in English, has simply not been translated for the French audience of OCS where the first two episodes were posted online on Sunday, October 15.
The heroine, Mae, 37, has been in a relationship with her husband Elijah for thirteen years. They have no children and their daily life has gradually turned into a routine where sex no longer has a place. One evening, this museum curator meets another man with whom she decides to spend the night. Mae then wakes up in a parallel universe where she is married to this stranger and Elijah is not a part of her life. Disoriented and feeling an immense emptiness, Mae will embark on a journey from dimension to dimension, in search of her lost love.
Associating romantic comedy with the concept of parallel universes may seem incongruous at first. Precisely, "Slip" plays the nonsense card to the fullest, since Mae realizes that it is every time she has an orgasm, that she is propelled into a new reality. But behind this eccentric façade, there is as much an ode to life as it is a not-so-rosy fable about an existential crisis.
There's a lot of humor in "Slip," scenes and lines that made us howl with laughter. The performance of lead actress Zoe Lister-Jones (seen in the series "New Girl") is a delight from start to finish and goes through all registers. It's all the more impressive that she is also the creator, screenwriter and director of this seven-episode drama! A real tour de force that carried us away from the first part. So much so that the release of the series in three parts (two parts available, two added on Sunday, October 22 and the last three on October 29), can cause real frustration. This will only make the pleasure better when it comes to tasting the rest.
