Suspend visa waiver or facilitation agreements with third countries in the event of hybrid threats. This is one of the main proposals contained in the reform of the visa suspension mechanism presented today by the European Commission.
"The evolving geopolitical environment has brought with it new challenges" related to visas, Brussels points out, indicating that the reform is aimed at "responding more quickly and decisively to these challenges", which also include "the increase in irregular arrivals" of migrants "due to the lack of alignment with EU visa policy" and "the instrumentalisation of migrants".
