Photographs of more than 1,000 Israelis kidnapped, disappeared or killed by Hamas took their place in the audience of Smolarz Auditorium at Tel Aviv University, part of an exhibition that has gone viral on social media.
Each of the empty chairs in the courtroom bears the image of an Israeli victim of the devastating Hamas attack on October 7. As Haaretz explains, the exhibition was initiated by the university's student union, along with an international initiative called "United Against Terrorism" which claims to have organized demonstrations and staged exhibitions at leading universities in the United States and Europe to "support Israel's public diplomacy efforts and expose the horrors of the Hamas terror attack."
The president of the Tel Aviv University student union, Daniel Zilber, said the intent of the exhibition is to "try to illustrate the scale of the horror and show the world that we have been massacred. This is neither a slogan nor a cliché: despite the carnage, we will triumph."
