The British branch of War Child, an organization that helps children in war-torn areas around the world, will release early next year a seven-song compilation album performed by leading artists such as Paul McCartney, The Chemical Brothers, Hozier and others, as part of an ongoing project called "Secret 7" that is now being launched after a hiatus of several years.

The album will be released in a limited edition of 700 vinyl records, with each record wrapped in a different sleeve designed by both well-known and unknown artists, whose identities will not be announced in advance. The albums will be auctioned, and the identity of the artist who designed each specific sleeve will only be revealed after the auction - all proceeds from which will be donated to the organization. It should be noted that these are not new recordings of the songs, but selected tracks that the artists agreed to contribute from their existing catalogue. Prior to the auction, all sleeves will be on display to the general public at NOW Gallery in London, March 2-17, 2024. Until then, artists interested in participating in sleeve design are invited to apply here, along with an example of a previous work.

"We are pleased to announce the return of Project Secret 7, which will help raise funds for War Child's important work in conflict zones around the world," said Rich Clark, the organization's head of music. "We believe that no child should be part of a war — ever — which is why projects like Secret 7 are so important. We thank all the musicians, artists and partners involved in the project. Together, we can protect and educate many more children, and support their recovery to a safer future."

The homepage of War Child Britain's website also posted a direct reference to the war in Israel: "We are horrified by the kidnapping and murders in Israel on October 7, which include scenes of destruction that took place at a music festival," the page reads. "More than 1,400 Israelis have been murdered in these attacks, with over 200 people reportedly taken hostage. Since then, rocket fire at population centers in Israel has continued."

The organization also addressed what is happening in the Gaza Strip: "We are horrified by the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where almost half of the population is children. Persistent bombardments from the air, sea, and land have been taking place since October 7... The death toll in Gaza now stands at 3,785, including 1,524 children."

List of songs that will appear in the collection:

  • "A Different Kind of Human" - Aurora (Norwegian singer)
  • "Stop the Flame" - Celeste (British singer)
  • "Swan Upon Leda" - Hozier.
  • "Lullaby" - Suzy and the Banshees.
  • "Pipes of Peace" - Paul McCartney
  • "Skipping Like A Stone" - The Chemical Brothers and Beck
  • "We Sell Hope" - The Splashes.
