On his new album, Cat Power Sings Dylan. The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert (Domino, released on November 10), the American singer had fun replaying the legendary concert given by Bob Dylan (officially broadcast for the first time in 1998). It was a historic performance in which the British public loudly told him they didn't want to hear him play as he switched from folk to electric rock. A long-time admirer, Cat Power injects her energy and her very special voice into it.
LE FIGARO. - Why did you record this record?
Cat POWER. - I was in Great Britain, unable to play live. At the end of my tour, I got a call from my manager asking me to sing at the Royal Albert Hall in London. I said, "Yes, as long as I make Dylan songs." I've always associated his legendary 1966 concert with this venue (even though the original record was recorded in Manchester, editor's note).
