Three studio albums to his credit, two of which were awarded with the Targa Tenco as best First Work in 2016 for La fine dei vent'anni and as Best Album in 2018 with Vivere o Morire: for many it would be a reason to stay in the comfort zone, to continue on the same line. Not for Motta, who decides to reset everything on his fourth album: on October 27, La musica è finita (Sugar) is released, which already from the title indicates the new path. "I don't deny anything I've done, quite the contrary," says the Tuscan singer-songwriter, who has been living in Rome for years. But at a certain point I had the feeling that I was repeating myself. And so I put a full stop and start again from what for me is the reason for living: music, which ends and starts again, transforms and evolves". And the inevitable connection with the success that bears the signature of Franco Califano, he assures, is only accidental. "I hadn't really thought about it, because by now that phrase in its brilliance has entered the common language, it has become a way of saying. That's why I used it." A record, therefore, direct and powerful, anticipated by the song of the same name and by Anime perse, in which Motta becomes the narrator of the project, which also sees collaborations with Willie Peyote, Giovanni Truppi, Jeremiah Fraites. "I'm not the type to be a feat. Nowadays collaborations are very fashionable and until now I had kept away from them, because when everyone goes in one direction, I go in the other. This time I did it because they are colleagues whom I respect and with whom there is a common purpose. But you'll never see me do a trap song." The production is entrusted to Tommaso Colliva, "he also contributed with his way of working, completely new to me, to make me start from scratch". Awards, recognitions, and yet the need to reset everything, as if the consecration from the public that was expected had not arrived. "I've always done what I liked, so I have no regrets," Motta explains. October 27 will not only be the release date of his new project, but also his return to the stages of clubs around Italy "to present this album, which is very important to me. There will be a lot of new songs and no, I don't consider it a gamble." The start from Livorno. Emergency volunteers will be present at all the concerts, "because - the artist is keen to emphasize - I will always be on the side of those who support the spread of a culture of peace. As Gino Strada said, 'I am not a pacifist. I'm against the war.'" After all, he had already expressed his position in 2019 with his participation in the Sanremo festival with the song Dov'è l'Italia, a cry towards a country that lacked humanity, in particular towards migrants. "And certainly things haven't improved since then, but I had the wrong target. I wanted to be heard, but those who should have listened didn't. I would go back to Sanremo, it couldn't be different for someone like me who writes songs. But I don't know when, or rather when the time will be."
