At least seven people have died in a series of rear-end collisions involving a total of 158 vehicles on Interstate 55 near New Orleans, Louisiana. The accident was caused by thick fog along with smoke from a series of fires that broke out in the southern marshes. This was written by the AP on its website.
Twenty-five people were injured and the death toll could rise; Rescuers are still working between the cars wedged on top of each other, Louisiana Police said in a statement.
Videos of apocalyptic scenes are circulating on social media with a long stretch of road occupied by torn and burned vehicles, some stacked on top of each other, others still engulfed in flames.
