The Council of Ministers has approved a particularly substantial security package with a number of new features. Among the most important, it is explained, more protections for law enforcement officers subject to violence or injuries, the introduction of a new crime to punish those who participate in and/or organize riots in prisons, the fight against squattings with lightning procedures for the liberation of real estate, the clampdown on scams against the elderly, specific measures against pickpocketing and anti-begging of minors.
"I am proud of the important 'security package' approved today," Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote shortly after the approval, listing some of the most relevant initiatives.
