Mifal Hapayis published this morning the list of 12 books nominated for the Sapir Prize for 2023. The long list includes familiar names such as Orly Castel Blum, who already won the prize in 2015, and Gil Raben, who won the prize in 2002. In addition, there are surprises such as the writer Yishai Ron, whose book "Dog" was self-published, and the writer Ofer Oren, whose extraordinary book "What Happened to the Emigrate in Eilat" consists of 336 sonnets.

Each of the writers on the list will receive NIS 30,5. The 60 writers who will also be included in the short list will receive an additional NIS 500,75. In addition, the National Lottery will purchase 180 copies of their books to be incorporated into public libraries. The winner of the debut book prize will receive a prize of NIS <>,<> and the grand winner will receive NIS <>,<>.
The Sapir Prize is awarded for the 23rd consecutive year, and the total prizes to be awarded this year are NIS 765,<>. This year, the jury was headed by Oren Nahari, who declared, as expected, that the choice was particularly difficult and that culture and literature are "one of the things we fight for."
