On January 10, 1999, the series that revolutionized the history of television, 'The Sopranos', debuted. 25 years after the first episode broadcast by the HBO network, the series focused on the events of Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), boss of the Italian-American mafia of New Jersey remains the most awarded ever, totaling about 87 awards, including five Golden Globes, while critics have called it among the greatest of all time. Conceived and produced by David Chase, in addition to James Gandolfini, who died in 2013 at the age of 51 while on vacation in Rome, the cast, among others, includes Lorraine Bracco in the role of Dr. Jennifer Melfi, Tony's psychoanalyst, Edie Falco as Carmela Soprano, wife of the mafia boss, Michael Imperioli, or Christopher Moltisanti, Carmela's cousin. The Sopranos is not a series about the Italian or Italian-American mafia, it is rather a cross-section of America, where traditional values come to count for little in the face of money. It's not even a comedy, nor is it a drama. It is the story of a man who can be considered an anti-hero. Tony is a depressed forty-year-old who enters therapy to escape panic attacks caused by a toxic mother, a stressful job, a cumbersome family, the general difficulty of living in a world of crumbling traditions. For a groundbreaking series, the ending could only be shocking. Tony is sitting in a diner and while waiting to be joined by his family, he plays Journey's 'Don't Stop Believin' on the small juke box on the table. First Carmela arrives, then her son A.J. and as her daughter Meadow is about to enter, the screen goes completely dark for a few seconds, then the credits start. It is an ending that still torments viewers today, what does that darkness mean? Perhaps it will remain inexplicable. To honor the 25th anniversary of its most famous series, HBO has decided to give fans unreleased scenes as well as behind-the-scenes footage. He then launched a new app, 'Sopranos 25th Anniversary collection' with 15 scenes that were deleted, three of which were never seen by the public. In addition, all six seasons are available to stream on the platform.
