When their business was unmasked by neighbors, Rabbi Braun decided to plug the tunnel. But when the construction crew arrived on the scene, some youths intervened and tried to reopen the passage with hammers, forcing the police to intervene. Clashes erupted amid a conflict between the synagogue's leadership and members of the Chabad-Lubavitch group. A dozen people were arrested, ten of whom were charged with obstructing the administration and disturbing public order.
