Barbenheimer's run to the Oscars continues despite Barbie's setback last Sunday at the Golden Globes: both Greta Gerwig's film about the Mattel doll and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer about the father of the first atomic bomb have received four nominations each ahead of the Screen Actors Guild awards scheduled for February 24 live on Netflix. Among these, the nominations for the cast as a whole, a category that often overlaps with the one that is attributed at the Oscars to the best picture: this time also Killers of the Flower Moon, American Fiction and The Color Purple are in the top five. Some surprises came with today's announcement: Leonardo DiCaprio was snubbed for his part in Killers of the Flower Moon as well as Greta Lee of Past Lives by Korean-American Celine Song, while Ferrari's Penelope Cruz entered the top five for Best Supporting Actress. The five for Best Actor sees Bradley Cooper for Maestro, Colman Domingo (Rustin), Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) and Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction) in the race, while on the actress front the race will be between Annette Bening (Nyad), Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Carey Mulligan (Maestro), Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Emma Stone (Poor Things).
On the television front, Succession starts in the lead with five nominations for the final season, followed by Ted Lasso, The Bear and The Last of Us with four nominations each. For TV, the award for best cast sees in the competition, in addition to the series freely inspired by Rupert Murdoch's family, also The Crown, The Gilded Age, The Last of Us and The Morning Show on the front of dramatic series, while the equivalent for comedy has in the five The Bear, Ted Lasso, Only Murders in the Building, Abbott Elementary and Barry.
