Amanda Knox is ready to tell her story, not only in front of the judges of Perugia, but also on the small screen of American TV. Hulu, Disney's streaming channel, is close to giving the green light to a limited series in which the court case (with its aftermath) of the former Seattle student convicted and then acquitted of the charge of killing British roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007 will be narrated, the website Deadline has learned.
Knox will have excellent collaborators in the production: Warren Littlefield of Fargo and The Handmaid's Tale and former Sexgate intern, Monica Lewinsky, will work with her. They are looking for the actress who will play the part of Amanda, reports Deadline, according to which filming should begin in the coming months. The screenplay, penned by KJ Steinberg (This Is Us), is based on the story of Amanda Knox, from her conviction in 2009 to her long odyssey to regain her freedom. The series had long been among Hulu's priorities. Lewinsky had anticipated something of it in October without going into detail. Known for her activism against the media slurry she herself had ended up in at the time of the political storm that led to the impeachment trial of then-President Bill Clinton, the former White House intern announced in October that she had joined the team of "a limited series about another young woman who saw her life decimated and torn apart on the world stage, But somehow she managed to survive." Monica had managed to regain possession of the story that made her famous at just 21 years old by producing Ryan Murphy's limited series Impeachment: American Crime Story which aired on FX and streamed on Hulu. Now a mother of two, the 36-year-old Knox opened up about her experience in the 2013 memoir Waiting to be Heard. The former student's story was also the focus of a documentary on Netflix and in the Lifetime film Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy. In December, Amanda said she was ready to return to Italy to defend herself against accusations that she had slandered Congolese-born musician Patrick Lumumba in the initial phase of the investigation into Meredith's murder. A crime, that of slander, which cost the American a sentence (already served) of three years in prison, now annulled by the Court of Cassation, which has ordered a new examination of the acts in Florence.
"I'm not afraid to go back to Italy to defend myself, I was unprepared at 20 but now I'm ready. And I want my children to see what it's like to stand up for the truth," Amanda Knox wrote on X.
