A three-month-old baby is hospitalized in serious condition in the Santobono hospital in Naples after testing positive for cocaine. The discovery was made yesterday by doctors in the Pediatrics department of the Ruggi hospital in Salerno. The child, in fact, had arrived at the pediatric emergency room in very serious condition. The doctors managed to stabilize him, arranging for the transfer by helicopter to Santobono where he is still hospitalized.
Urinalysis revealed that the baby - who was born three months ago at the Ruggi Hospital - was positive for cocaine. According to reports, the mother is a drug user. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that transmission may have occurred through breastfeeding. The case has been reported to the agents of the State Police who are working to reconstruct what happened.
