Selena Gomez will play Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic about the country-rock legend. The singer and actress of Only Murders in the Building, also of Mexican descent, confirmed the choice by posting an image of Simple Dreams, Ronstadt's 2013 memoir, on her Instagram profile.
The biopic is currently in pre-production, a collaboration between Linda's manager, John Boylan, and James Keach, who produced the 2019 documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice.
Ronstadt, who is 77 years old, has not sung since 2011: that year she announced her retirement from music due to a rare and severe neurodegenerative disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, initially mistaken for Parkinson's. (
