The persistent shortage of skilled workers will continue to weigh on numerous industries in 2024. Not least in the pharmaceutical industry, there is a lack of well-paid employees in this context.

All companies continue to be affected by the ongoing shortage of skilled workers in Germany. Some industries suffer more than others. And yet the problem seems to run like a red thread through the labour market. The shortage of skilled workers is also burdened by economic uncertainties, writes Hiringlab.org. As the Indeed Job Index also shows, labor demand declined in 2023 due to economic constraints. Companies are faced with a major challenge: attracting qualified employees and at the same time coming to terms with the weakening economy.

As a recent survey of HR managers by the ifo Institute shows, the German labor market will continue to be characterized by a striking shortage of skilled workers in the new year. A full 54 percent of the companies surveyed stated that they found too few applicants as part of their active search for new employees.

A full 87 percent of the companies surveyed rated the ongoing shortage of skilled workers as the most relevant of the various current challenges.

Many people initially associate lucrative salaries with various jobs in the pharmaceutical industry. And they're not wrong at all. Among other things, there is an increasing demand for IT experts and specialists in biotech and gene therapies. "There is a shortage of experts, especially in new areas," explains Ralf Neier, who holds a doctorate in chemistry and is a recruiter at the personnel consultancy Hapeko.
