When Amy Winehouse was one of the world's most beloved singers thanks to the huge success of her critically acclaimed album Back to Black, it was clear that she was here to stay. To the dismay of millions of her fans around the world, Winehouse struggled to cope with her fame, which worsened her drug and alcohol addiction until she died at the age of 27 from alcohol poisoning.
Already after her death in 2011, it was clear that it was only a matter of time before the film industry got its hands on the legendary singer's story, and indeed it did so already in 2015, when the documentary "Amy" was released, which was a great box office success for a docu-film and also an Academy Award (which the late singer's family did not endorse him).
After several feature projects about the singer's life failed to mature over the years, director Sam Taylor-Johnson ("Boy from Nowhere," "Fifty Shades of Grey") was chosen by Winehouse's family to direct the film about her life. Today (Thursday), the first trailer for the film, which bears the name of the singer's successful album, was finally released, and the result is particularly intriguing.

Winehouse is played by British actress Marisa Abella, who became famous for her role of Jasmine in the critically acclaimed series "The Industry". She will play the singer in the days before her meteoric breakout, during which she won countless awards and sold millions of copies of her albums. "I don't write music to get famous, I write songs because I don't know what I would have done differently," Abella says in the trailer.
Abella will also be joined by Jake O'Connell ("Unbroken"), who will play her probabilistic husband Blake; Eddie Maarsen ("Free and Happy") as her father Mitch, and Oscar nominee Leslie Manville ("Hidden Threads") as her grandmother, Cynthia. The film is expected to be released in the UK this April and in the US a month later. It is not yet known when, if at all, it will be distributed in Israel.
