Those who receive a child supplement are also entitled to a subsidy for the children's school needs. In 2024, this will be 195 euros.

The state does not only support parents with child benefit – families with low incomes and single parents in particular have the opportunity to apply for further subsidies. For example, those who are eligible for the child supplement or housing benefit are also entitled to so-called "benefits for education and participation". These are intended to help parents with the costs of their children's education.

Benefits for education and participation can be both cash and non-cash benefits. One piece of news will please parents in this regard: the subsidy for school supplies has been increased from 2024 euros to 174 euros per school year in 195. Of this, 130 euros are intended for the first half of the school year and 65 euros for the second half of the school year. According to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, personal school needs will be increased by the same percentage as the standard requirement.

However, the benefits for education and participation also include the following aspects:

  • one-day excursions and multi-day school trips from school, daycare or day care
  • Assumption of the costs of public transport tickets for pupils (no personal contribution has to be paid for journeys outside school transport)
  • Assumption of the costs of adequate learning support for pupils
  • Free communal lunch in after-school care, daycare, school or day care
  • a monthly amount for social or cultural activities of 15 euros, e.g. for the sports club or music school
