Tom Cruise will soon return in one of his most iconic roles. According to several American media, a third installment of the cult saga "Top Gun" is currently in the works. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Ehren Kruger, the co-writer of the latest "Top Gun: Maverick," is already working on writing the next film.
While no information about the synopsis and date has been revealed, the co-writer's ambition would be to reunite Tom Cruise and the duo of young actors from the second installment, Miles Teller and Glen Powell, on screen. If we had to wait 36 years between the release of the first and second films, we can already say that the delay between the release of the second and third episodes of the saga will not be as long.

On the other hand, it's hard to imagine this new installment in the saga coming to the big screen soon. Indeed, Tom Cruise has just signed an important, but not exclusive, partnership with Warner Bros. for a future collaboration on original film projects and sagas, according to Variety. A collaboration that also revives the hope that an Edge of Tommorrow 2 will see the light of day.

Released in 1986, "Top Gun" was a great success and became the film that propelled Tom Cruise to the forefront of the international scene. It tells the story of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a rebellious but talented fighter pilot who becomes a legend at a U.S. Navy air combat school, Top Gun.
Thirty-six years after the first film was released, fans were treated to a sequel in 2022, with "Top Gun: Maverick." This new opus gave Tom Cruise his biggest success in theaters, with an estimated $1.5 billion worldwide.
While waiting for more information on this third installment which will see Tom Cruise return to the cockpits, the 61-year-old star actor is currently busy shooting the eighth film in the "Mission Impossible" franchise, which is scheduled for release in May 2025.
