A cardiac arrest in a hospital far from the transplant site risked rendering the organs unusable. The collaboration of the doctors of the hospital in Cuneo, where the death occurred, and the experience of the colleagues of the Molinette of the City of Health of Turin, who rushed to Cuneo, have instead made it possible for the first time in Italy, it is reported, to revitalize the heart, kept alive until the arrival in the Piedmontese capital for the transplant. The same work has been done for the liver.
In both cases, the organs were not kept in ice, but outside the body in perfusion machines.
