The lava flowing from the fissure that opened up after this morning's volcanic eruption southwest of the Icelandic capital Rejkyavik, is now about 600 meters from the tallest houses of Grindavík, a town that was quickly evacuated overnight after the first sign of the earthquake.
In a post on X, Icelandic President Gudni Johannesson said that "no life is in danger". While some infrastructures are, he said. The president added that air traffic will not be disrupted.
"There is an eruption under the city," Olafur Arndal, a restaurateur from Grindavik, told Eurovision News.
