Farewell to Enzo Moscato, the great post-Eduardo theatre author - Teatro

Highlights: Enzo Moscato, a leading exponent of the new Neapolitan dramaturgy after Eduardo De Filippo, died last night after a long illness. He had set many of his dramas in the Spanish Quarters that he loved so much, telling the social hardships of those inhabitants. He is considered a great of the theatre, with courageous texts, archaic and modern at the same time. Among the many awards, the Idi Prize 1988, Ubu Prize for Theatre 1988 and 1994, Critics' Award 1991, Annibale Ruccello Positano Prize 2003.

Enzo Moscato, who was born in Naples on April 20, 1948, and was a leading exponent of the new Neapolitan dramaturgy after Eduardo De Filippo, died last night after a long illness. Author, director and actor, he had set many of his dramas in the Spanish Quarters that he loved so much, telling the social hardships of those inhabitants with stories full of life, complex, contradictory never straight.
He is considered a great of the theatre, with courageous texts, archaic and modern at the same time.
Scannasurice, Signurì signurì, Piece noire, Rasoi, Ragazze sole con qualche esperienza (Lonely girls with some experience), Embargos, Luparella, Ritornanti, Toledo Suite: these are some of his works written, staged and performed in a forty-year career.
Since 1990 he has been the artistic director of the Enzo Moscato theatre company and has also held positions as artistic director for the Teatro Mercadante - Stabile di Napoli in the years 2003-2006, for the International Theatre Festival - Benevento Città Spettacolo in the years 2007-2009. He also frequented the cinema, first of all Death of a Neapolitan Mathematician by Mario Martone with whom he had a great artistic partnership.
Among the many awards, the Idi Prize 1988, Ubu Prize for Theatre 1988 and 1994, Critics' Award 1991, Annibale Ruccello Positano Prize 2003, Benevento City of Entertainment Award 2009, Naples Culture Award 2013, Ubu Lifetime Achievement Award 2018, Concetta Barra Award 2020.
