In Spain, 44.1% of men "strongly or somewhat agree" that "we have gone so far in promoting women's equality that men are now being discriminated against", something that 32.5% of women also think. This is the conclusion of the first survey by the Centre for Sociological Research (CIS) on perceptions of equality between men and women and gender stereotypes, published on Monday. The study shows that 67.2% of women believe that the inequalities that exist between them are "very large or quite large" ―22.4% of those interviewed indicate that the differences are the same as a decade ago―, in fact 81.2% of them say that "they will not achieve equality unless men also fight" for their rights.

The CIS analysis, carried out last November on 4,005 people over 16 years of age, shows that on a working day women spend more time on household chores (cleaning, cooking, shopping...) than men, women spend 172 minutes (almost 3 hours) on average per day and men 126.76 minutes (2 hours). But when asked about childcare during a working day, the distance between the sexes increases: while women spend 412.25 minutes (6.7 hours) with their children, men spend about 228.88 minutes (3.7 hours).

World of work

For 67.8% of women, the situation for girls to access a position of responsibility is worse, and 50.9% of men think the same, who, on the other hand, also say that 39.7% say that women have the same opportunities. 78.1% of women agree with the statement "women have to work harder" to prove that they can perform the same job, this percentage drops 26 points when we ask men, 51.8% agree and 46.3% deny that this is the case.

When asked about stereotypes, for 66.5% of those surveyed, watching pornography is more typical of men than of women, the same goes for paying to have sex: 84.9% say that it is more typical of the male sex. On the other hand, 55.6% indicate that talking openly about feelings is more typical of women.

49.2% of men have heard sexist comments from friends or family, the figure is similar among women (45.6%). 13.8% of them said they had witnessed a man sexually harassing a woman and 8.1% of them too. With regard to gender discrimination at work, 9.7 per cent of women say they have witnessed it, compared to 5.4 per cent of men.
