Disruption at Deutsche Telekom: Thousands of customers affected throughout Germany

Highlights: Deutsche Telekom customers in several German cities reported an unusually high number of disruptions to their Internet connections on Friday morning. Since 8 a.m., outages have skyrocketed. The number of affected users has risen from about 400 since the morning hours to 4,397 problem reports. 82 percent of users report problems with the Internet and landline, 12 percent have a total failure and 6 percent have mobile connection. Thousands of Telekom customers are struggling with disruptions on Friday morning. Several large cities are experiencing connection problems.

Munich – On Friday morning, January 12, Deutsche Telekom customers in several German cities reported an unusually high number of disruptions to their Internet connections. Since 8 a.m., outages have skyrocketed. Again and again, there are nationwide failures at Internet providers.

As can be seen on a graph by the portal allestörungen.de, the number of affected users has risen from about 400 since the morning hours to 4,397 problem reports (as of 09:52 a.m.). This means that the disruptions at Deutsche Telekom have increased more than tenfold within a short period of time.

Especially in the conurbations, the connection problems seem to appear. On a map of the portal you can see the main affected cities:

  • In and around Dusseldorf
  • Hamburg
  • Berlin
  • Frankfurt am Main
  • Dortmund
  • Stuttgart
  • Eat
  • Munich
  • Bissersheim

On the map, red circles are used to identify places that have had a particularly high number of users submit issues in the last 24 hours, and some issues are usually reported throughout the day. The number of reported reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for this time of day.

In a more detailed overview, 82 percent of users report problems with the Internet and landline, 12 percent have a total failure and 6 percent have a mobile connection. A cause for the disruptions is currently unknown, reports the portal netzwelt.de.

Users are angry on the net. A woman asks in the portal's comments: "Is it just me or is the internet broken again?", someone else vents his anger: "And here we go again. Constant interruptions and thus total failures," he complains.

Fault at Deutsche Telekom: "The fault has been resolved"

Since about 10.30 a.m., the number of fault reports on allestörungen.de has been declining again, currently about 900 reports are still being received. At the request of IPPEN. Deutsche Telekom explains to MEDIA that the malfunction has now been resolved. Accordingly, all services should soon be working again. The company stated: "There was no disruption to our access network. Some customers experienced problems connecting to various online services. For our customers, there was no general impairment of data services or mobile and fixed-line telephony."
