"Certainly there is regret for the decision" on the ESM "but, as they say, Parliament is sovereign.
I think, however, that the regret must also translate into the push to find a way to resolve this issue, because we cannot avoid the possibility of using these resources, which is supported by almost all countries." This was stated by the European Commissioner for the Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, arriving at the Eurogroup.
"So there is respect for Parliament's choice, regret, and a desire to move forward," Gentiloni summed up.
Eurogroup, 'waiting for an update from Giorgetti on the ESM'
The ratification of the reform of the ESM is "on the agenda, we are waiting for an update from Minister Giorgetti on the vote that took place in the Italian Parliament. We will ask him to update the other ministers" on the situation. This was stated by the President of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe, arriving at the meeting of Eurozone Economy Ministers. Asked about the possibility of Italy returning to vote on the ESM after the European elections, Donohoe stressed that the issue concerns "the Italian government and parliament". "We respect the decision taken, 19 other parliaments have ratified the treaty," he stressed.
