An unpleasant end after only one year: A large supermarket near Hamburg has to close again. Customers, on the other hand, can benefit.

Henstedt-Ulzburg - Unexpected closure after only one year: Marktkauf had only opened its supermarket branch in the North Industrial Park in Henstedt-Ulzburg (Segeberg / Schleswig-Holstein district) about 35 kilometers north of Hamburg in April 2022, previously it was a Real store. Recently, however, it became known: At the end of March 2024, it will be over again. According to the Abendblatt, 77 employees who have to look for a new job are affected.

A spokeswoman for the Edeka trading company, to which Marktkauf belongs, confirmed the move to the newspaper. And he also explained the reason: "Unfortunately, we have to confirm that our sublease for the Marktkauf location in Henstedt-Ulzburg is no longer valid due to the insolvency proceedings and the associated termination of the main tenant Real." According to the Abendblatt, the entire Gewerbepark Nord belongs to the Redos Real Estate Group, whose lease agreement with Real has become obsolete.

Marktkauf in Henstedt-Ulzburg closes: Will Kaufland follow suit?

A Redos spokesperson is quoted as saying that the company is "currently in promising talks with a well-known hypermarket operator to enable a long-term and sustainable solution for the location." It could be Kaufland – rumour has it that there has been interest in the location for some time.

The Marktkauf has 6,350 square meters of sales space, it was announced at the opening. That's a lot. By way of comparison, the new Kaufland store in Munich's Mira shopping centre has "only" 3,500 square metres, while Germany's largest Kaufland has 12,000 square metres. Will there soon be one in Henstedt-Ulzburg?

Market purchase near Hamburg probably starts discount campaigns before closure

Shortly before the end of the day, customers in Henstedt-Ulzburg can benefit. A Facebook user documented in several photos that the first signs for discount campaigns had been put up on site: 20% on laundry, 50% on floor heaters, 20% on stationery and so on. "We're closing! Everything has to go! Greatly reduced!" can be read on the displays.

According to information from kreiszeitung.de, the campaign actually exists. It is understandable that there are no storms of jubilation in response to the Facebook posting, but also several sad emojis: Marktkauf and the team had certainly imagined all this differently. A perfectly located Baltic Sea Rewe has also closed down these days – albeit only temporarily. (lin)
