Sometimes you wish that the bananas from the supermarket would stay so fresh for a while longer.
It sometimes happens when buying fruit: the bananas were still fresh and crisp in the supermarket. But if you store them at home, the skin quickly gets dark spots and the fruit becomes inedible. What you should know when storing bananas: They excrete ethylene, a ripening gas. If you store them together with other types of fruit, they spoil faster. The situation is similar with apples, which is why you can even place unripe, green bananas next to apples so that they ripen faster. Otherwise, bananas have no place in the fruit bowl, where they can also get bruises. For this reason, ripe bananas should not be placed next to apples. Otherwise, they will tan even faster.
Keeping bananas fresh at home for longer

Accordingly, the stalk of the bananas should be covered as airtight as possible with fresh or alternatively aluminum foil, as it was said in the online post. The foil is designed to prevent the ethylene from reaching other parts of the banana. This should allow it to ripen more slowly.
Store bananas hanging
To prevent bananas from getting bruises, the magazine Öko-Test also advises that bananas are best stored hanging. There are special banana hangers or holders for this to buy, but a string works the same way, Ökotest.de reported. How to store lemons cleverly.
