'Long live the king'

This is evidenced by a video immortalized behind the scenes of the event, and shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the @DanskeKongehus account, on Sunday, January 14. "Long live the king!" reads the caption of the sequence, in which the monarch appears to gather his strength, lets out a deep sigh and then steps onto the balcony of the royal palace. He then greeted the Danes, before being joined by his wife Mary, the new Queen of Denmark, whom he embraced, and their children Christian, 18, Isabella, 16, and twins Vincent and Josephine, 12.

A video that contrasts with the more detached image of British royalty, more focused on the adage "Never complain, never explain" than the Danish clan. It was a way of making Frederik X, who was struggling with multiple scandals - between adultery, forbidden love and controversy over titles of nobility - more accessible, at the dawn of his reign.
